Music Program
The Brighton Central School District is very proud of the large number of students who actively participate in our music program from kindergarten through grade 12. On May 5, 2010, Brighton Central School District was named a 'Best Community for Music Education' by the National Association of Music Merchants. This is as a result of NAMM's 11th annual survey, which acknowledges schools and districts across the United States for their commitment to and support of music education in schools. Click here to see the May 13th article from Rochester's Democrat and Chronicle about the eight area school districts that have earned this national distinction. Brighton teachers are members of the National Association for Music Education (MENC) which represents all levels of teaching. It is the world's largest arts education organization and the only association that addresses all aspects of music education. Additional information is available on our website about the general music, instrumental and choral programs at Brighton Central Schools as well as information about area solo festivals. Our teachers have significant roles in organizations at the state and national level; with that comes opportunities for Brighton students. In addition to participating in NYSSMA Conference All-State Ensembles, Brighton High School students also attend the annual symposium of the New York State Band Directors Association. It will next be held in Syracuse, New York on March 4 through 6, 2011. The American String Teachers Association is another organization that teachers in Brighton are members of which supports string and orchestra.
