Visual Arts Program
The Brighton Central School District has an excellent Visual Arts program. The curricular program is rooted in the New York State Art Standards and the exploration of Essential Questions in art. The curriculum sequentially builds on an exposure to, and manipulation and application of the Elements and Principles of Design. Students experience the creative art processes through two and three-dimensional as well as mixed media exploration. Student achievement is demonstrated through performance and portfolio assessment.
Additionally, the curriculum is designed so that students have interdisciplinary experiences in conjunction with their other areas of study. An important feature at all levels of our Visual Arts program is the opportunity for students to critique and evaluate their own work as well as work done by their peers, amateur, and professional artists. Students learn how to look at, talk about, interpret, and write about theirs and others' works of art. Brighton teachers are members of NYSATA, the New York State Art Teachers Association. This non-profit organization was founded in 1948 for the purpose of advancing the cause of art education. NYSATA's 63rd Annual Conference will be held at in Tarrytown, New York from November 18 through November 20, 2011. Please click here to access our online web gallery.
