Brighton Preschool/Parent Program

  • Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Brighton Community Education and Preschool office is temporarily closed to the public. The director is working remotely and is able to access voice mail messages and email messages (please send to ce@bcsd.org). Please check back here for periodic updates about the reopening of public schools as procedures are finalized in accordance with guidelines issued by Governor Cuomo, the Monroe County Health Department and the CDC. We are currently planning and preparing for various scenarios that all place the health and safety of our teachers, students and families at the forefront. Thank you for your patience during this unprecedented time.

The Brighton Preschool/Parent Program (BPPP) has been a part of the District for over 60 years and is run under the auspices of Brighton Community Education. The preschool offers children an opportunity to share and learn together in a safe and nurturing environment where each child is valued and accepted as a unique individual. The preschool curriculum provides creative opportunities for all children and encourages social development and increasing independence. Classroom activities and teacher interaction are designed to foster a sense of increasing competency, the acquisition of new skills and the development of language by providing diverse opportunities for experimentation, which challenge thinking and reasoning abilities. Both large and small motor skills are developed through activities inside and outside the classroom. Parent involvement is an integral part of the program. On a rotating basis, a parent (or another family member/nanny) serves as a helper in the classroom. Families are responsible for volunteering in this way 2-3 times each season (fall, winter, spring)  This commitment to being a part of the classroom routine provides families with a foundation in developing strong home-to-school connections.

Parents are also encouraged to attend evening discussion groups addressing issues affecting parenting and families, which are facilitated by the classroom teachers and program director.

Two preschool sessions are offered. Students may register to attend class for two, three or four days per week Monday - Thursday from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. or two or three days per week Monday - Wednesday from 12:30 – 3:00 p.m. Brighton Preschool/Parent Program meets in a well-equipped classroom on the first floor of the District’s Central Administration Building, 2035 Monroe Avenue, Rochester, NY 14618. The program follows the Brighton Central School District calendar, not meeting when the District is closed for holidays, recess periods or due to inclement weather.
