COVID Update — Jan. 20, 2021
Dear Members of the Brighton School Community,
Thank you for your continued vigilance. Keep up the great work!
- Since our last update, there have been 15 additional positive COVID cases as confirmed by Monroe County. That’s not far off of our average of 12 cases per week for the past 6 weeks.
- 5 of these cases were at Brighton High School, 5 were at Twelve Corners Middle School, 3 were at French Road Elementary School, and 2 were at Council Rock Primary School. 1 of the 15 was in the all-remote program.
- 7 of the cases are considered open. In other words, the others have already resolved and the individual is no longer considered COVID positive.
- 21 additional members of the school community are in official quarantine as directed by the Monroe County Department of Public Health. Other individuals are self-isolating or quarantining at the request of their doctor, school personnel or of their own accord while awaiting additional contact tracing.
Our state mandated orange zone testing program resumed last week. We tested 10% of our in-person school population resulting in 0 positive tests. We will test an additional 10% next week. BHS and TCMS will be tested on Thursday, Jan. 28. CRPS and FRES will be tested on Friday, Jan. 29. Families will receive an email prior to the testing dates to notify them that their child has been selected for testing.
We will continue offering support for the roll-out of vaccinations for adults working with your children. Local efforts have been hampered by a lack of vaccine availability. We are monitoring this situation closely and will keep you informed of progress that is made.
Kevin McGowan, Ed.D.
