BHS ESOL Program
Welcome to the BHS ESOL Program Page!
Currently at BHS we have approximately 40 students participating in the high school ESOL Program. Language proficiency ranges from
beginning level through intermediate, advanced and transitional level courses. This year most students are from Asia. Many students are from China, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Korea, Kosovo,Latvia, Israel, Mongolia and Russia.
This year we continue to use resources acquired from the Building Bilingual Excel Grant awarded to Brighton High School during the 2001-2002 academic year. The ESOL Program was given $30,000 to purchase technology, student texts, establish an after school program, and provide for cultural enrichment through field trips. As was the case last year, students continue to enjoy learning to utilize and apply technology to their academic work as well as their day to day lives. Many students are able to communicate with family and friends in far off lands because of the internet and accessibility of two computers in the ESOL Room. Students are also able to utilize the digital camera, scanner and printer to complete projects in the context of language learning and development.
