Chess Club at Brighton High

  • Advisor:  John Clements   Chess board

Chess Club is open to all students interested in playing chess and/or learning how to play chess.  At the weekly meetings, games are played and instruction is given.  There are opportunities for members of the club to also participate in competitions on our Chess Team. The BHS Chess Team participates in the Greater Rochester Interscholastic Chess League, which meets during the winter sports season.

    Chess Club
will meet on most Tuesdays at 3:00-3:45 PM in Room #200. During these meetings, students interested in competing will play matches to determine individual strength and ranking.  Discussion of the game and possible alternative moves will serve as a learning experience for both players.

If you would like to compete on our Chess Team, matches are played once a month at various schools across the county.  Over 30 schools participated last year and the Democrat and Chronicle provided coverage of the chess results in the Our Town section of the paper. Last year, our chess team came in 2nd place in our league.

On travel match days, chess team participants will meet at the BHS back door parking lot entrance by 3:00 PM and board bus form there.  The bus will typically return and drop off at the same location by around 6:00 PM.  Students must secure their own belongings during the match. A signed permission slip is required and must be returned to Mr. Clements prior to our first match in order to participate in this season's matches.

    - A 2017-18 schedule is attached below and posted outside of Room #200.

    - Chess Match Permission slips are posted below and are also available form Mr. Clements in Room #200.
