Families must register their athlete with FamilyID within 30 days of the season starting.
New York State regulations prohibit students from trying out or practicing with a team without a physical on file and a health certification form completed and approved by the school nurse. This is mandatory. Every year girls miss one or two days of tryouts for failing to take care of this.
Girls in 7th and 8th-grade may try out for the team. Athletes will be evaluated on their volleyball skills (serving, passing, hitting) and on their potential to develop those skills. Evaluating players is obviously a very subjective process. Athletes and parents should know that I do my very best to carefully select players who I believe are ready to participate in interscholastic competitions. It takes a tremendous amount of courage to try out for any sport, and I have great respect for all who take that risk.
Tryouts will be held on Wednesday, September 5 from 3:00-5:00, Thursday, September 6 from 3:00-5:00, and Friday, September 7 from 3:00-5:00. Results of the tryouts will be announced at the conclusion of Friday's session. Tryouts will be held in the small and large gyms at TCMS.
Practices for those who make the roster will begin on Wednesday, September 12. The team practices every day that school is in session from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. It is expected that athletes will attend every practice. Exceptions will be made for illnesses, religious instruction, music lessons, etc. Membership on an interscholastic sports team involves a significant time commitment! Athletes do not typically get home from matches until 7:00 p.m. It is essential that student-athletes develop strong organizational skills to help balance academics with athletics. Academics ALWAYS come first.
This is a friendly reminder about athletic registration for the upcoming fall sports season. Important dates will be listed on the BCSD Athletics page.
Families must register their athlete with FamilyID within 30 days of the season starting. This is why we have different registration periods for the different levels.

Students that have a valid physical can upload them to the system. It is important as you are filling these documents out that you list any prior injuries that your child may have had. If these injuries happened within the last year, we must have a release on file so your athlete can be cleared.
Please contact the athletic office or BHS nurses office with any questions regarding your child. If you have questions regarding the FamilyID system, please call 888-800-5583 x 1.

If your daughter is serious about volleyball, whether she makes the team or not, and is interested in an additional opportunity to learn and to play, I encourage you to consider having her play club volleyball. There are several clubs (VolleyFX, Eastside Ice, Xtreme, Paradign, Impact, and Hot Shots Juniors) that compete in local, regional, and national tournaments throughout the winter and spring. Parent meetings for clubs are held in late August or early September. Tryouts for the various clubs start in the early fall, but practices (twice per week) generally do not begin until the conclusion of the scholastic season. Clubs place players on teams based on ability and interest.
Clubs vary in their intensity, competitiveness, and cost. Contact club directors to find the right fit for your daughter.
All clubs require athletes to be registered with WEVA (http://www.wevavolleyball.org/G-Reg-O.asp) in order to try out. A nonrefundable fee is required to join WEVA and each club will also charge an additional fee to try out. Consult club websites to get important information about tryouts.
