Mrs. Callard - Math
Math 6ES - Mrs. Callard
Period 1/2, 'Odd' days (Room 308)
Final Unit Test = Tuesday, 6/19/18 (Study Guide below!)
We are in our final unit of the year, "Comparing and Scaling." The focus of the unit is working with ratios, proportions and percents, building on work done geometrically in "Stretching and Shrinking." As usual, our focus is on building understanding of these ideas, not simply shortcuts, so you will see students using a variety of strategies to solve problems throughout the unit! This unit builds on and pulls together students' previous work throughout the year.
Please see the "Homework" tab and/or the calendar for up-to-date assignments and handouts. This is especially helpful to access if you were absent or missed class due to a lesson, etc.
In the middle school we use the Connected Mathematics Project (CMP3) curriculum (Lappan, et. al., 2014) as our primary resource. Our first two units are from the 6th grade curriculum, and the remaining are from the 7th grade curriculum. This program is built on the idea that students need to have opportunities to explore, think and reason about mathematics with others to make sense of importand mathematical ideas and concepts. You will see this throughout our work this year! You may want to check out the website supported by the authors at Michigan State for helpful ideas and "frequently asked questions" for parents (http://connectedmath.msu.edu/families/).
