The Visual & Performing Arts Department

  • VPA

The Brighton Visual and Performing Arts Department encompasses the music, art and theater programs for the district.  Students are engaged in a balanced program at all levels of study, integrating performance, analysis, movement, observation, problem-solving, development of critical thinking skills, and creativity to suport the development of a commitment to life-long learning.  Multiple opportunities and levels of participation are available to our students in this diverse and inclusive program.  From entry level experiences at our elementary schools in general music and visual art to specialized courses in music, art, and theater at our high school--there is something for everyone!

For those students who want to challenge themselves further, we also offer a full program of co-curricular activities involving all areas of the arts at the secondary level.

Visual and performing arts offerings continue year round.  In June and July, Brighton Summer Arts provides creative workshop experiences for 4th through 8th grade students in the morning, a 2nd through 4th grade musical in the morning, a 4th through 8th grade musical in the morning,  and a 4th through 12th grade musical in the afternoons.

In April 2018, the Brighton Central School District was renamed a Best Community for Music Education 2018 by the NAMM Foundation.  This is the tenth year that Brighton has been awarded this designation for "Outstanding Support of Music Education and Enriching Lives of Children & Advancing Student Achievement".
