TCMS Participates in World Hijab Day

Twelve Corners Middle School students and staff participated in World Hijab Day on Feb. 1. World Hijab Day is an annual event where women and girls of all faiths are invited to wear a hijab (head covering) for a day in solidarity with Muslim women worldwide. The overall mission of the day is to create a more peaceful world where global citizens respect each other. The primary focus is fighting bigotry, discrimination, and prejudice against Muslim women.

The school’s Student Council and Muslim Student Union sponsored the event with help from ENL teachers Kristen Hallagan and Maria Sanchez-Martinez. More than 30 staff and students wore hijab and over 100 others wore buttons and stickers to show support. News 8 reporter Amal Elhelw came to the event and interviewed students. Participation in the day was voluntary.
