Council Rock Primary School was excited to host Grace Lin for an author visit in November. Lin is the award-winning author/illustrator of “The Year of the Dog,” “Ling and Ting,” and “Where the Mountain Meets the Moon.”

Prior to the author’s visit, Council Rock students explored and celebrated her work. All teachers participated in some way, whether by making beautiful projects in art class, creating origami in extended studies, or having her books available in class. The Council Rock library focused on Lin’s work and provided background knowledge about her and the Chinese-American culture featured in her books.

Kindergartners and first graders made pretend mooncakes to help Lin read her newest book, “A Big Mooncake for Little Star.” Students also volunteered to take the stage to represent different steps in the publishing process.

Second graders heard real-life details about “The Year of the Dog,” a book their teachers read aloud to them. Lin also demonstrated how to draw a dragon. A small group of second graders was invited to lunch with the author where they could ask questions.

Lin signed books and every Council Rock student received a special bookmark with her signature on it.

Thank you to the Brighton PTSA for supporting this special event!
