Twelve Corners Middle School students and staff participated in World Hijab Day on February 1. World Hijab Day is an annual event where people of all faiths wear a hijab (head covering) for a day in solidarity with Muslim women worldwide. The overall mission of the day is to create a more peaceful world where global citizens respect each other. The primary focus is fighting bigotry, discrimination, and prejudice against Muslim women.
Student Council sponsored the event with help from teachers Kristen Hallagan, Maria Sanchez-Martinez, and Katie Kantz. About 40 people wore hijab that day and 55 wore buttons to show support.
