Brighton Girls Cross-Country Wins Section V Championship

The Brighton girls cross-country team won a Section V Class A Championship on Nov. 2 at Midlakes High School. Brighton finished with a score of 86 to top Canandaigua (116). It’s Brighton’s first sectional championship in the sport since 1984.

Sophomore Eilee Ossont finished second in the race with a time of 19:12.4, junior Maddie Pearson finished 12th (20:18.5), junior Zofia Stefankovic finished 20th (20:40.3), freshman Cate Anzellotti finished 21st (20:43.5), sophomore Olivia Burkhart finished 31st (20:55.6), sophomore Georgia Ross finished 52nd (21:45.6), and senior Bizzy Merz finished 74th (22:40.2). Brighton is coached by Brian Matthews, Shannon Times, and Mike Bradley.

Brighton represented Section V at the New York State Championships at SUNY Plattsburgh on Nov. 16. Ossont then competed at the New York Federation Championships in Wappingers Falls on Nov. 23. Ossont placed 20th at Federations.
