Brighton Girls Nordic Skiing Wins Third Straight Section V Championship
The Brighton girls Nordic skiing team won a third straight Section V championship and senior Zofia Stefankovic won the overall individual Section V championship at Bristol Mountain on Monday, Feb. 8.
Stefankovic took first place in the 7.5-kilometer distance race with a time of 29:43 on Feb. 6 at Harriett Hollister Spencer State Park. Fellow Bruins senior Grace Mattern (30:02), sophomore Cate Anzellotti (30:17), and sophomore Emelia Jordan (30:54) took second, third, and fourth. The trio of Stefankovic, Mattern, and Anzellotti also won the relay race by more than three minutes with a time of 30:40.3 on Feb. 8.
For the Brighton boys, freshman Miles Mattern placed third (35.32) in the 10-kilometer distance race. In the relays, Liam Judd had the fastest split of the day (9:20). The boys relay team of Mattern, Judd, and Heath Ashley placed sixth (30.38).
The Nordic skiing team is coached by Craig Mattern and Rachel Mattern.
