FRES Creates Changemaker Walk for Black History Month

change maker display

For Black History Month, French Road Elementary School classes created a Changemaker Walk throughout the building. Each classroom selected a changemaker and created a display outside their room to highlight the individual’s accomplishments. The displays included how the changemakers impacted the community and students’ personal reflections or connections to the changemakers.

The changemakers included: Frederick Douglass, Thurgood Marshall, John Lewis, Serena and Venus Williams, Maya Angelou, Oprah Winfrey, Ray Charles, former President Barack Obama, Jackie Robinson, Simon Biles, Amanda Gorman, and more.

Classes walked through the halls to learn about all of the changemakers. The remote students were able to access the exhibit digitally. Some of the displays are interactive with QR codes that bring them to life.
