Visiting Author Liza Wiemer Encourages Acts of Kindness at Council Rock
Council Rock Primary School was excited to host author Liza Wiemer on Monday, Oct. 23. Wiemer recently published her first picture book, “Out and About: A Tale of Giving,” a story about anonymous good deeds based on the Jewish tradition of tzedakah. CRPS Library Media Specialist Adele Mockevicius prepared students by reading other books about good deeds and launching a school-wide kindness project.
Wiemer debuted “Out and About” in a lively and interactive way, engaging all students during her grade level presentations. Students were then asked to think about what they could do to spread kindness in a variety of places, like the classroom, home, in their neighborhoods, and on the playground. A “kindness web” was created in the audience using string, accentuating how spreading kindness affects everyone around you.
Following the visit, each class received a BOOK-Mitzvah Party bag that included a copy of the book for the classroom to keep and materials for each student to make their own kindness cards. There was even a certified Kosher treat included.
Thanks to the Brighton PTSA, Brighton Education Fund, Jewish Federation of Greater Rochester, and the Brighton Memorial Library for sponsoring this visit.
