Update on Pearson Data Breach

Brighton Central School District learned today (Aug. 5) that in or around November 2018, data stored in Pearson's AIMSweb 1.0 platform was affected by a data security incident. The District hasn’t used this platform in a few years.

The student data affected is limited to first name, last name, and date of birth. The staff data is limited to first name, last name, email address, and role in the District.

While it is our understanding that there is no evidence that the information has been misused, Pearson is offering complimentary credit monitoring for affected individuals as a precautionary measure. Not all staff and students were impacted by this incident. The majority of the students already graduated from Brighton High School with the remainder being current BHS students. We will mail a letter to affected families and staff.

Please know that Brighton Central School District is committed to protecting and securing educational data. Our team has extensive training in data security and privacy, and our systems have many controls in place to protect your child’s educational records. Additionally, we have also received assurances that Pearson has taken the necessary steps to mitigate the incident and is enhancing protections to guard against similar events.
