Fourteen BHS students traveled to Spain in February as part of the BHS-Meres International School Exchange took. The Spanish students traveled with Mrs. Rivera, Mrs. Crowley, and Dr. Hall.

The first stop was Segovia. Students were able to see the ancient aqueduct, the Alcazar, and enjoy lunch in the quaint town. They traveled on to Madrid, where they stayed close to the Puerta del Sol and were able to soak in the Spanish culture and lifestyle. They enjoyed many traditional late-night meals, as well as churros from the original location of the delicious confection. Many miles were walked as students received a guided walking tour of the city, visiting the Palacio de los Consejos, Almudena Cathedral, the Plaza Mayor, the Royal Palace, and toured Bernabéu Stadium, home of Real Madrid. Students explored Parque Retiro where many took row boats out on the water. While the weather was beautiful, some time was spent inside at the Museo del Prado. From there, they were off to a cooking class. They learned to prepare and cook paella and traditional Spanish tortilla de patatas.

After three days in Madrid, students boarded a train for Asturias. Host families met students at the train station in Oviedo where their time with host students and families began. While in Oviedo, students attended classes and went on field trips to the town hall, the Cathedral of San Salvador, San Martín Mining Museum, and the coastal city of Gijón. The weekend brought Carnaval in the city of Oviedo. Students celebrated with host families and friends before one more day of sight-seeing with families.
