Inspired by the endeavors of the crew of the historic Artemis II mission, second graders in Ms. Porta’s class did research about the moon to write informational paragraphs and create watercolor paintings.
During a professional book study session for "Vintage Innovation" by John Spencer with Katie Fallon and Sue Beato, a space capsule splashdown project then came alive. Ms. Porta and Mrs. Fallon presented the students with a challenge to design and build a space capsule that would protect an egg during a fall from the playground structure. Mrs. Beato's kindergartners were invited to view the “splashdown” while acting as the ocean to catch the capsules with a sheet. A successful splashdown was had by all!
