Posted Date: 06/17/26 (01:52 PM)

Two films created by three Brighton High School students recently won awards at the annual New York State High School Film Festival at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Lauchlan Presley, Maria Shinina, and Stella DeRisio represented a student-driven media and short-film production house called Whitmore House Productions, supported by themselves and Jordan Inzinna, Teja Jensen, Daniela Nobles, and Ani Boller. Their short film, “When There Was You,” received two awards: first place in the Drama category and Best Overall Film (the Magic Spells Studio Award/RIT Critic’s Choice Award). Their second short film, “A Glow Through the Glass,” received second place in the Horror category.

Overall, 67 films were submitted by high school students from across New York. Only 24 were selected as category finalists, including both “When There Was You” and “A Glow Through the Glass.” The festival included a red-carpet event, interviews with News 8 and News 13, and an awards ceremony.
